Obtaining a Residence Permit

There are different types of residence permits in Turkey based on your purpose of stay. The most common types include the ‘Short-Term Residence Permit’ based on reasons such as tourism, property ownership, or establishing a business; the ‘Family Residence Permit’ in the case of marriage to a Turkish citizen; and the ‘Student Residence Permit’ for students enrolled in a Turkish university. The application process generally begins by creating a preliminary application through the online system of the Directorate General of Migration Management. Afterward, on the scheduled appointment day, all required documents—such as a valid health insurance policy, documents proving your address of accommodation (lease contract or title deed), passport photocopies, and biometric photos—must be submitted in person to the relevant provincial or district directorate of migration management.
